The Expedition 16 crew researched how blood vessels supply the brain in microgravity and how astronauts use station hardware for improved space ergonomics. The crew members also studied ways to increase the strength of materials and measured how the station vibrates when vehicles dock and undock or when astronauts exercise. Europes Automated Transfer Vehicle arrived for the first time to resupply the orbital outpost.
