KIKU-1, also known as ETS-I (Engineering Test Satellite I), was the first Japanese experimental communications satellite. KIKU-1 (ETS-I) was launched on September 17, 1975, to test various satellite communication technologies. It was part of Japan's efforts to develop its satellite communication capabilities and establish itself as a player in the field of space technology.
