B1 Image

The B1 from Dawn Aerospace is a Cold Gas Thruster with a thrust range of 0.49-1.35 N. This thruster utilizes nitrous oxide (N2O) and propylene (C3H6) green propellants and has a specific impulse of 248 sec. It has a pulse frequency of 4 Hz and a minimum impulse bit of 1.4 mN.s (Cold gas). The thruster uses a spark-based igniter and requires an igniter power of 6.4 W max for 50 ms. It has two normally closed solenoid valves per thruster and requires a valve power of 0.75 W (hold) and 14.4 W (hit). The thruster body is additively manufactured as a single structure using Inconel 718 which includes the injector, combustion chamber, and nozzle. It has a dry mass of 260 g and measures 108 x 79 x 40 mm. The thruster can achieve 6DOF satellite control and is also suitable for rendezvous and proximity operations.
