The KARMA-4 TG from Kongsberg is a Solar Array Drive Mechanism with a redundant two-phase bipolar stepper motor. It has a rotational speed capability of 1 degree/sec and a full step resolution of 0.005 degrees. This mechanism is qualified for an axial load of up to 1800 N and a radial load of up to 2000 N. It is qualified for 125000 revolutions of output shaft and requires a power supply of 5 W. The system features new Slip Ring technology to increase power transfer, and a new Twist Capsule to further reduce cost and offer more flexibility. It has a mass of 3.8-4.5 Kg and measures 200 x 200 (length x diameter). The mechanism has an operational life of 15 years and is aimed at both LEO and GEO applications.
