The MicroWheel 200 from Microsat Systems Canada Inc., is a Miniature Reaction Wheel Torque Actuator that is designed for mini-satellites and microsatellites with an in-orbit life of less than 7 years. It has a torque of 30 mNm and angular momentum of 0.18 Nms. This angular momentum storage device has a mass less than 0.94 kg and requires a 28 V unregulated power line. It consists of an optional angular rate sensor which is integrated with a microcontroller. The microcontroller implements speed and torque control loops for the reaction wheel, allowing it to accurately track speed or torque commands from a satellite’s attitude control computer.
This "smart" sensor/actuator reaction wheel supports asynchronous RS-422/485 series data interface for commands and telemetry including wheel speed, acceleration, torque, rate sensor reading, temperature, voltage, current, and internal pressure. It has a flight heritage of more than 200 years of operational wheel time and measures 100 x 90 x 90 mm.
