The MicroWheel 1000 from Microsat Systems Canada is a Reaction Wheel with an angular momentum capacity of 1.1 Nms and a torque capability of 30 mNm. It has a speed range of +/-10000 RPM and a static imbalance of less than 0.5 mg/m. This angular momentum storage device has a maximum MEMS sensor rate of 1.3-450 deg/sec and a thermal bias of less than 20 deg/hr. It supports an asynchronous RS-422 or RS-485 serial port interface for commands as well as telemetry. The reaction wheel requires a voltage supply of 28 V and has a peak power consumption of less than 50 W. It includes both a reaction wheel and an optional solid-state angular rate sensor, which are operated locally by an embedded microcontroller. The reaction wheel has a mass of 1.44 kg and measures 130 x 130 x 90 mm (L x W x H). It has a design life of more than 7 years and is ideal for mini-satellites and microsatellites.
