The CMG 40-60 S from Airbus is a Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG) that is designed to operate in large satellites (1000-2000 Kg) with a lifetime of 10 years in LEO orbit. It has a momentum of 30-40 Nms per CMG and a torque of 60 Nm. This gyroscope has a mass of 38 kg per CMG. It has an unlimited gimbal axis angular range and an angular resolution of 22 bits. This CMG requires a DC supply of 22-37 V and has a power consumption of 55 W (quasi-static) and 115 W (max maneuver) per CMG. It consists of integrated micro-vibration dampers to filter residual disturbances and allows easy satellite integration with a limited footprint, one-side fixation principle, and integrated tilted wedge. This CMG has a precise balancing of the wheel and very low friction in the gimbal bearings for very low disturbances and highly accurate pointing performances. It supports MIL 1553 data bus interface, and measures 370 x 465 x 500 mm.
