The CMG 15-45 S from Airbus is a Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG) that is designed to operate in medium satellites with a lifetime of 10 years in LEO orbit. It has a momentum of 15 Nms per CMG and a torque of 45 Nm. This gyroscope has a mass of 18.4 kg per CMG. It has an unlimited gimbal axis angular range and an angular resolution of 22 bits. This CMG has a power consumption of 25 W at 15 Nms per CMG and a pointing performance of less than 10 mrad. It requires a DC supply of 22-37 V.
The CMG 15-45 S consists of integrated micro-vibration dampers to filter residual disturbances and allows easy satellite integration with a limited footprint, one-side fixation principle, and integrated tilted wedge. It has precise balancing of the wheel and very low friction in the gimbal bearings for very low disturbances and highly accurate pointing performances. The gyroscope supports MIL 1553 data bus interface and measures 270 x 350 mm.
