The Ariane 5 DAAV from Kongsberg is a Attach and Release Mechanism with a flight limit load of 3700kN. This mechanism has a frictional coefficient of 0.03 and +/- 2 degree of rotational angle. It has a separation time of 5 ms and the height can be adjusted upto +30 mm. It has a mass of 81-85 kg and has more than 90 % of the total thrust. The DAAV high performance spherical bearings included in a highly sophisticated mechanism, transmit the loads from the Ariane 5 booster motor (EAP) to the Ariane 5 main stage (EPC) throughout the booster life. The functions of the DAAV are to transmit loads between the EAP and the EPC throughout the launch vehicle’s life, assist in the EAP/EPC separation upon receipt of a pyrotechnical order and to connect and adjust the EAP and EPC during the launch vehicle integration.
