Triton Space Technologies, an engineering design and manufacturing company that specializes in low-cost practical rocket propulsion systems has introduced a new solenoid-actuated Poppet valve for rocket propulsion applications.
The TS-160S from Triton Space is a simple, high-pressure, high-flow, in-line valve that uses a brand new, miniature, 3-way pilot solenoid valve to actuate the main poppet with upstream pressure, such that no external actuation pressure is required. With an operating pressure of 3,000 psi and 1-inch (AN-16) inlet and outlet fittings, this valve has the high pressure and flow capacity required for demanding propulsion applications.
The valve has a higher flow area, an in-line configuration as opposed to the more typical 90° port configuration, and an equivalent pressure rating to the industry standard equivalent. It has a proof pressure of 4500 psig and a burst pressure of 7500 psig. The valve has a fast actuation time of less than 300 ms and is compatible with hydraulic fluids such as GN2, GHe, and N2O.
The TS-160S features a streamlined "in-line" design allowing for simplified installation into systems without the need to accommodate a 90 deg plumbing interface and comes with stainless steel inlet and exit fittings incorporated directly into the valve body allowing for high-pressure rating while reducing system weight by eliminating heavy stainless steel union fittings used on valves with female O-ring boss porting. The miniature pilot solenoid integrated directly into the main body allows for fast response time while drawing less current than typical larger solenoids.
