Symetrie will be presenting at booth 4039 of Space Tech Expo USA, a unique place to discover the richness of the space industry, which will be held from May 2nd to 4th 2023 in Long Beach, California (USA). They will be presenting their solutions based on hexapod technology, in the presence of our US distributor Axiom Optics. Symetrie is a key player in the fields of very high precision metrology and positioning.
Hexapods in Space
In the space industry, hexapods are used by manufacturers and research centers to align antennas on telecommunications satellites, to assemble components with precision during assembly phases, or to check the quality of optical instruments and their components, assemblies in particular within optical test benches.
Webb Optical Qualification Bench, MTG Optical Calibration, Vacuum Optical Tuning, Optical Instrument Calibration, Satellites Antennas Testing, Space Camera Testing, and Space Spectrometer Testing etc are the space hexapods.
Hexapods in Astronomy
In astronomy, the hexapod is mainly used as a secondary mirror support on terrestrial optical and radio telescopes. It realigns the secondary mirror with respect to the primary mirror throughout the observations to compensate for thermoelastic deformations and those due to gravity. The hexapod can also be used to position a telescope instrument with high precision.
M2 Optical Telescope, M2 Radio Telescope and Qualification M1 Segment are the hexapod for astronomy.
