Azur Space Building Latest Technology Based Solar Cell With 50+ Years of Experience

Azur Space Solar Power is a global player in development and production of multi-junction solar cells for space PV and terrestrial CPV applications. Based on more than 50 years of experience in space solar cell technology, Azur Space brings back from space its latest photovoltaic technology for terrestrial applications.

Their state-of-the-art solar cells offer high efficiencies, small temperature coefficients and excellent power-to-mass ratio. Their product range covers high-efficiency solar cells optimized for space and terrestrial CPV applications as well as components with a higher integration level or even customized solutions.

Solar Cells

All solar cells include the latest triple and quadruple junction technology, where III-V layers are grown on a Germanium substrate and the whole product range benefits from many years’ experience on the space market. Space Solar Cells offer high efficiencies, starting from the 28% class and ending in the high-end cell class of 32%. Azur delivers wide range of triple-junction GaAs solar cells of different classes of ranges 28 % , 30 % and 32 %.

Solar Assemblies

Space Assemblies are space solutions with a higher integration level. Based on our high-efficiency solar cells of the 30% or 32% class, the assemblies are additionally equipped with cover glasses and interconnectors. The cell dimensions as well as the integrated bypass diode are the same as for the bare solar cells. The cover glass covers the whole area of cell and is fixed by bonding with a transparent adhesive onto the front side of the solar cell. The interconnectors are covered with silver, fixed by a sophisticated welding process and designed for LEO, MEO and GEO Missions.

Solar Diodes

These diodes offer a highly reliable and well- proven protection of individual cells from negative bias in case of their possible inhomogeneous illumination in the string or damages. There are two types of bypass diodes available. An external Si diode as well as a GaAs diode, which is monolithically integrated in the solar cell structure. As all of our space solar cells, both diode types are space- qualified and applicable for LEO, MEO and GEO missions.

Space Wafers

Space Wafers contain triple junction InGaP/GaAs/Ge epi-layer structures with efficiencies of up to 30% available in large-scale production. These wafers can be used for further processing and customized cell designs.
