Motiv Space Systems to Showcase its Latest Innovations in Space Technology at the Space Tech Expo 2023

Motiv Space Systems a company that builds the building blocks of space exploration, innovation, and automation will be exhibiting at the Space Tech Expo USA 2023 at booth 7040. Motiv will be showcasing its latest innovations in space technology at the Space Tech Expo.

Motor Controllers Designed To Fit Your Mission

From earth orbit to deep space to frigid lunar temperatures and beyond, Motiv’s advanced motor controllers are designed and built for the extreme environments of space. Driving everything from robots to deployment machines, these innovative motor controllers can be tailored to support almost any application in space. With industry-leading customization and adaptability, the motor controllers allow to rapidly move from the lab to flight – all with the same architecture.

Robotic Solutions That Enable The Most Visionary Missions in Space

  • Custom Space Robotics: Motiv is a trusted robotics partner of NASA, JPL, and private space companies, developing some of the most advanced space robotics in use today. Motiv’s robotics are powering Martian exploration, on-orbit assembly, and more. At the front of NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover is a seven-foot-long arm with five joints. It carries some of the mission’s most critical tools for analyzing and sampling the Martian surface. To design and build this critical piece of robotics, NASA turned to Motiv Space Systems.
  • Robotic Components - Force-Torque Sensor: Custom-engineered for NASA/JPL’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover, Motiv’s revolutionary six-degree of freedom force-torque sensor operates at -135°C and will give the rover critical contact dynamics information as its robotic arm collects and stores samples of the Martian planet for a future return to Earth.

Motiv’s Custom Mechanisms

  • Imaging Mechanisms - Mastcam-Z: The Mastcam-Z sits above the rover at two meters high and serves as the primary science imager of the Perseverance rover. It is the first high-definition, 3D zoom-capable stereo camera system ever sent to another planet.
  • SOMS Filter Wheel: The SOMS filter wheel will be used on an imaging platform in earth orbit.  In addition to engineering and building the wheel assembly and actuator, Motiv utilized its Bravo motor controller with embedded control software to position the wheel.
  • Mastcam-Z Filter Wheel: A wheel containing eight specialty filters mounted in front of the Perseverance rover’s primary imaging sensors, allowing scientists to filter out specific wavelengths of light for a range of scientific applications.
