Kongsberg NanoAvionics, a small satellite mission integrator focused on delivering new generation satellite buses and their mission services for the satellite applications market has introduced a new Magnetorquer for CubeSats and nanosats.
Magnetorquers “SatBus MTQ”, designed by NanoAvionics, is a set of two (X and Y-axis) magnetorquer rods and one air core Z-axis magnetorquer coil that are mounted on a PC/104 form factor PCB to enable nanosatellite attitude control.
The system is designed as a part of the NanoAvionics “SatBus” nanosatellite platform but can be used with any third-party ADCS controllers that can provide 3 H-bridge PWM-controlled voltage outputs to each torquer coil.
The Magnetorquer is suitable for CubeSat detumbling and magnetic attitude control and is compatible with the PC-104 form factor and most CubeSat structures. It features 3 separate 1.5 mm pitch PicoLock connectors for power input to each axis and a gold-plated FR-4 (IPC-6012B) PCB.
This Magnetorquer has a dipole magnetic moment strength of 0.30 Am2 (X & Y axis) and 0.34 Am2 (Z axis). It requires a supply voltage of up to 5V and has a power consumption of 0.4 W. The Magnetorquer has a mass of 205g and has IPC – A600H class 3 assembly, soldering per ESA specification ECSS-Q-70-08.
