Astrofein one of the market leaders in space products that develop, builds and test space systems and space components such as satellite buses and CubeSat deployers has introduced a new reaction wheel that has been designed for CubeSats.
The RW1 Type A which has been developed by Astrofein is a CubeSat reaction wheel that features separate wheel drive electronics (WDE) for up to four reaction wheels and a PI controller for speed and acceleration.
This reaction wheel comes with an option of two different rotating masses (Type A or Type B) and can support four different standard data interfaces. Due to the mechanical design and the high levels of alignments and balancing the reaction wheel emits low levels of vibration.
The RW1 Type A has an angular momentum of 0.00058 Nms and a maximum rotational speed of up to 16000 rpm. The reaction wheel has a torque of 23 µNm and a design lifetime of up to 1 year in low earth orbit.
