Infostellar, a Ground Segment as a Service (GSaaS) provider, has been selected by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for a “Feasibility Study on lunar mission support ground station development” The selection was officially made on January 8th, 2025, and Infostellar has now begun work on the study.
The JAXA Space Exploration Center (JSEC) is planning the operation of multiple lunar exploration missions from 2028 onward. The successful execution of these missions will require the establishment of a robust communication network infrastructure supported by ground stations capable of lunar exploration. This study will examine the development and service provision of lunar exploration ground stations, focusing on enabling communication network services for JAXA missions and other spacecraft and mission equipment operating in cislunar space.
Infostellar has a proven track record of providing cloud-based ground station network services for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites in collaboration with domestic and international partners. Leveraging its experience and its core service, StellarStation, Infostellar has successfully aggregated multiple partner ground stations worldwide under a "Network of Networks" approach. By applying this service model to lunar exploration ground stations, Infostellar aims to deliver highly effective services that maximize mission success.
